This acceleration creates a vacuum that draws water from the well into the pump. The water enters the venturi, where its velocity increases further, and pressure drops, allowing even more water to be pulled in.
Once the water reaches the pump casing, it is expelled through the discharge pipe. The jet pump can lift water from depths of up to 25 feet, making it suitable for shallow wells. For deeper applications, special variations of jet pumps, known as deep well jet pumps, can be used. These pumps have an additional jet assembly submerged in the well to assist in lifting water from greater depths.
One of the primary advantages of jet pumps is their simplicity and ease of installation. They can be set up quickly and require minimal maintenance. Additionally, jet pumps can handle various water conditions, including clean and slightly dirty water. This versatility makes them suitable for different environments and applications.
However, there are also some drawbacks to consider. Jet pumps can be less efficient than other types of pumps, especially when lifting water from greater depths. The energy consumption may increase, leading to higher operational costs. Furthermore, jet pumps may experience a decrease in performance if the well water level drops significantly.
